Loft Ladders
Many households with a loft/attic use the spare space for storage, perfect to take care of clutter even more so if no garage or garden shed is available. The loft is an easy space to convert to storage, a few loft boards screwed to joists and you will be surprised how much storage space is available in what would ordinarily be dead space. Some households take things further and turn the loft area into an extra room.
Either way many access the loft via a set of step ladders, unaware of how easy and cost effective a loft ladder is to fit. The problem with a set of step ladders is that they are not built for this purpose and often are just accidents waiting to happen. The ladders for example may not be the correct height meaning somehow you need to climb into and out of the loft by pulling yourself up or lowering yourself down, each time opening yourself up to the chance of having an accident.
If you don’t have a loft ladder yet and are thinking about getting one, think about the last time you needed to go into the loft, perhaps it was around Christmas time to get the decorations down in that yearly routine, was your method safe and secure? Did you even use ladders at all as some don’t. In fact when speaking to customers we have heard instances of someone standing on another’s shoulders to gain access to the loft, or others that climb on the banister to gain entry. Think about it, loft hatches are often at the top of a stair case. Imagine if you fell out of the loft, not only would you fall out of the loft itself but you may then fall down the flight of stairs causing serious injury.
For your own safety, you should install a loft ladder in your house and make the next time you need to go into the loft a safe one.
